The vibrant world of Unicorn Overlord unfolds on a sprite-based overworld map, beautifully crafted with distinct cities, landmarks, and climates. In this rebirth of the tactical fantasy RPG genre, you will guide Prince Alain as he goes on a quest to reclaim the throne usurped by General Valmore.

Unicorn Overlord’s narrative follows Prince Alain’s quest. His journey is enriched by a magical artifact, The Ring of the Unicorn, amplifying the stakes in the fight against General Valmore. Throughout the journey, you will have encounters with various enemies. These battles take place on the overworld, with diverse units engaged in dynamic fights that unfold based on preselected tactics unique to each fighter.
The game’s combat diverges from traditional turn-based grids as it draws inspiration from real-time strategy titles. The strategic depth is further enhanced by squad customization, where you assign troops to a 3-by-2 grid, each led by a designated leader with unique attributes. Additionally, the side-scrolling battle scenes — though not directly controlled — will showcase the impact of your strategic decisions in every fight.
Outside of battle, the game provides ample opportunities for exploration, quests, and resource gathering. There are also bond events with units that deepen your connection and add a social dimension to the gameplay. Despite its strengths, there is one notable setback to the game: occasional audio glitches. While this drawback doesn’t affect the gameplay or storyline, it can deter you from fully immersing in the game.
